Canadian Use of Force Systems, the Evolution of Defendo

Fight Like a Canadian: Canadian Use of Force Systems, the Evolution of Defendo

What is Defendo you ask? Originally developed by Bill Underwood after the Second World War, Defendo is truly Canada’s only martial art. Underwood created Defendo, which includes fast joint locking, compliance and escort techniques, as a defensive system for law enforcement that could be learned and applied quickly. In addition to its law enforcement and intelligence applications, Defendo quickly became a unique and improved system of self protection for civilians.

A Toronto based organization called Canadian Use of Force Systems, has built upon the principles and concepts taught by Underwood and has evolved their applications for a modern environment. The system entails realistic, linear and task-specific tactics within a short duration, high retention format.

Terry Kingsbury, Chief Instructor for the Canadian Use of Force Systems in the Ottawa area, teaches Canadian Use of Force Systems, the Evolution of Defendo at Stronger You Martial Arts and Self Defense. The first level of the program involves 1 hour of classroom time twice a week for a period of 6 – 8 months. See the schedule for class times. No previous martial arts experience is required, however there is an age requirement of 18 years and up.

Congratulations to all who graded to CUFS Level 1 on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
