Sensei Terry Kingsbury. Sensei Terry’s background in combatives began in his own backyard watching his Dad practising Combato/Defendo with his buddies. Despite a diverse background in the martial arts, Sensei Terry’s combatives career highlights include the following achievements: certified in Immediate Recall High Stress Combatives High Force Field Combatives, focusing on military and policing principles up to and including special operations; active member of the Canadian Use of Force Ottawa Mobile Training Team (MTT), and the Chief Instructor for CUFS for Eastern Ontario. He is also Director of the Canadian Modern Combato Society (CMCS). He teaches the civilian application of Immediate Recall High Stress Combatives at Stronger You.
Master Gabriele Roloff began her Modern Arnis training in 1984. The founder of Modern Arnis, Grandmaster Professor Remy Presas, took her on as his personal student and she traveled, trained and taught with him for many years until his passing in 2001. The late Grandmaster Professor Presas appointed Master Roloff as one of his seven successors in November 2000, being the only woman and European in his team. Professor Presas honoured her with the title ‘Master of Tapi Tapi’ which stands for the highest level of proficiency in the art of Modern Arnis, and is beyond all black belt levels in the art.
Robbie Cressman. Robbie Cressman is the founder, owner and operator of the Canadian Use of Force Systems which is a professional
Mobile Training Team engaged in specialized Use of Force training applications with Canadian federal, provincial and large municipal SWAT Teams; American federal, state, city, and regional law enforcement; and military assets up to and including special operations applications.
Guru Brian Johns teaches the Filipino martial art of Modern Arnis as well as Cooper Vee Jitsu Ryu, with an overarching emphasis on self defense. He is passionate about martial arts and his own training as well as training others. Born and raised in Ohio, he has his law degree from Notre Dame University and trains under Master Chuck Gauss. He currently resides in Oshawa, Ontario.
Master Su Zi Fang was named one of China’s 100 Outstanding Wushu Practitioners by the Chinese National Wushu Association. In China, she is known as the “Queen of Taiji”. Her specialties are all the five family Taijiquan: Yang, Chen, Sun, Wu and Wu/Hao Style, Baguazhang and Xingyiquan. Master Su began learning Wushu at the age of eight and was identified by the Chinese government for full-time training among China’s great martial artists at the age of eleven. When teaching and coaching, Master Su not only reveals internal martial arts theory, technique, and her competition experience to her students, she also helps them find health and happiness through their practice.
Master Wen Mei Yu was born in Shanghai, China in 1936. At the age of 17 she started studying chi kung (quigong) to help with health problems. This led to a personal journey of self-discovery, where she dedicated her life to the study of internal arts, such as taijiquan, chi kung and related internal arts systems.
While she came to the United States in 1987, Wen-Mei Yu regularly returns to China to continue her studies in taijiquan, chi kung and related internal arts to delve deeper into the tradition, as well as to keep up on contemporary research and developments in her chosen styles.
Grand Master Sunny Tang: Founder, President, Chief Instructor. Grand Master Sunny Tang (Dunn Wah), a second generation student of the late Grandmaster Yip Man and disciple of Grandmaster Moy Yat, introduced Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu to Canada in 1973 with the establishment of Sunny Tang Martial Arts Centre. After training in Ving Tsun for more than a decade in his hometown of Hong Kong, Sunny Tang moved to England in 1971. After 2 years, Master Tang immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he started the first Sunny Tang Martial Arts Centre.
Sifu Alan Tang: Chief Program Director Canadian National Team Coach. Currently Alan is the National Team Coach for Canada and is one of a few certified IWuF coaches in the country. Alan began his martial arts training at the age of 5 under his father. At the age of 7 he began training in Hung Gar under the guidance of Sifu Glen Doyle and later Sifu James Lore of the Jing Mo Kung Fu Club in Toronto. His introduction to Wushu came at age 12 under the tutoring of former Guang Dong and Chinese National Wushu team member Chan Wei Xiong.
Laoshi Laird Trimble Ph.D., Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association Level 5 Certified Instructor
Laird discovered Tai Chi in 1996 when, on a lark, he took a course with Laoshi Sergio Arione to improve his coordination. His love affair with the martial arts took off from there. At that time he began learning the Yang style of Tai Chi as taught by Master Tsun-Kuen Ma. In 1998 Laird attended his first seminar with Master Yang Zhenduo when he and his grandson Yang Jun visited Montréal and at that time Laird began learning and practicing the Yang Family Style of Tai Chi Chuan. In 2001 he began teaching classes under the tutelage of Laoshi Sergio Arione and in the spring of 2007 was awarded full Certified Instructor status with the International Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association. As a Certified Instructor, he enjoys helping others discover the many benefits of Tai Chi and promoting Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. In the summer of 2011 Laird was awarded the rank of Silver Tiger by the Association. Laird has experience in teaching Tai Chi and Qigong to a wide range of clientele, including seniors, second world war veterans and appreciates how Tai Chi can be tailored to meet the needs of a given individual.
Laird was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and currently resides in Canada’s capital city Ottawa. He was trained in organic chemistry and in his day job Laird used these skills to perform his duties as a full time research scientist to discover new breakthrough medications at a major pharmaceutical company. In 2011, he left the pharmaceutical industry to follow his passion to teach Tai Chi Chuan full time.
In addition to Tai Chi, Laird also teaches and practices the Choy Lee Fut system of Lohan Qigong as taught by Grand Master Chen Yong Fa.
